Microsoft has released a beta version of its new Exchange Server 2010 that will be out later this year. The Exchange Server 2010 offers features that will help businesses share server data, and administrators and end users can now seamlessly go between internal and hosted e-mail servers. The beta of Exchange Server 2010, previously code-named "E14," is being rolled out a part of the company's renewed focus on the unified communications market. The release of Exchange Server 2010 is the first product to launch in what Microsoft describes as the "next wave of Office-related products.
Microsoft is promising an integrated email archive, lower storage costs, improved productivity and a consistent Outlook experience across PC, mobile phone and browser with the new version of Exchange Server. Since these new enhancements will take time to learn, why not sign up for a Microsoft Exchange training program that will easily help you master the program's new version so that you can use it like a true professional.
With plenty of new enhancement and features, here a few to expect with the new version of Exchange Server 2010. MailTips is a feature designed to give users a warning before they commit an e-mail faux pas such as sending mail to large distribution groups, to recipients who are out of the office or to recipients outside the organization.
Voice Mail preview is a function, allowing users to see text previews of voice mail directly in outlook while Ignore Conversation is an email “mute button” that allows people to remove themselves from an irrelevant e-mail string, reducing unwanted e-mail and runaway reply all threads.
Conversation View is a new feature, allowing users to combine related e-mail messages in a single conversation to reduce inbox clutter while Call Answering Rules is a customizable call routing menus with Exchange voice mail.
According to Rajesh Jha, corporate vice president of Exchange at Microsoft, “Exchange 2010 ushers in the next generation of Microsoft unified communications software as the first server designed from inception to work both on-premise and as an online service. This release raises the bar with new archiving and end-user innovations that will help companies save money and employees save time.”
The company is also touting its "Software plus Services" option for customers. Exchange Server 2010 can be installed at the customer's premises or it can be accessed online as a service provided by Microsoft or its partners. Microsoft claims Exchange Server 2010 will be the first product in a line of new servers that are "built from the ground up" with inherent Software plus Services capability.
Additionally, IT pros can set Windows rights management services polices directly in Exchange Server 2010 for compliance based on each user. User mailboxes can be moved without incurring employee downtime. Exchange Server 2010 supports migration from Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007, but it is not an upgrade. You have to move the database, uninstall the earlier version of Exchange, install Exchange 2010 and then mount the database.
