Business Etiquette Training: Business Functions and Travel offers the student an overview of etiquette guidelines for business functions and meals. The training program details how to dine with proper manners and use formal table settings appropriately. In addition, the training program teaches the learner how to be a courteous traveler and prepare for international business trips.

Training Objectives
Unit 1: Attending Business Functions (0.5 - 1 hour)
- Match the types of cocktail functions with the characteristics that describe them.
- Identify guidelines you should follow at trade shows and conventions.
- Identify actions for mingling successfully.
- Mingle successfully at a business function.
- Identify your responsibility for responding to invitations.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation, you are Sales Director for Icon's Dallas division. Icon is welcoming visiting members from offices in London. You and other managers of your department have been invited to attend a cocktail party celebrating their arrival. In the first part of this simulation, you will meet with Alexis Bell, the newest member of Icon's sales management team. She doesn't know exactly how to respond to the invitation, which was sent to her by John Cunningham, an upper-level manager. You must answer questions she has about punctuality and dress. In the second portion of the simulation, you will attend the cocktail party. You will mingle and maintain short conversations with guests at the party.
Unit 2: Dining for Business (0.5 - 1 hour)
- Identify the utensils used in a formal table setting.
- Identify the conversational guidelines for business meals.
- Identify the guidelines for ordering drinks and food.
- Identify the differences between American and Continental dining styles.
- Identify the basic rules of etiquette you should apply during a meal.
- Identify the actions you should take to deal with awkward dining situations.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation, you will meet with Jessica Stone to discuss proper etiquette at a business dinner. You are the leader of a team concerned with financing large estates in Icon's Budget Finance Department, and recently your team has been competing against RDD Investments to secure the Thompson account. You were informed that he hasn't made a decision yet as to which company he has chosen to receive his account, so you want to be on your best behavior during the dinner. Jessica has agreed to meet with you to ensure you understand proper dining etiquette.
Unit 3: Traveling for Business (1 - 2 hours)
- Apply guidelines to be a courteous traveler.
- Identify guidelines for working during a flight.
- Identify guidelines for conducting business in a past- or present-oriented culture.
- Apply guidelines to help you conduct business with an individual who has different cultural orientations than you.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation you are the Quality Assurance Manager for Icon's Software Development department in San Francisco. You are traveling to visit Icon's Software department in Tokyo to observe and learn from their quality control techniques. In the second part of this simulation, you will meet with Seji Nygaya and Singo Kawabe. They are part of a small welcoming meeting that has been arranged to greet you. You must follow the guidelines for conducting business with the Mr. Kawabe and Mr. Nygaya.
