Before answering that question, it's important to note that SkillSoft has acquired past leaders in the industry, SmartForce (CBT Systems) and NETg. These mergers and acquisitions, which took place in 2002 and 2007 respectively, strengthened SkillSoft, helping to shape it into the powerhouse that it is today. According to Hoovers, SkillSoft is a public company with $328.5 million in sales for the fiscal year ending in January 2009 and it employs 1124 employees. Hoovers reports that the two main contenders in the SkillSoft competition are: Global Knowledge and Canterbury Consulting. Global Knowledge is a private company with $49 million in sales and 1050 employees reported in 2008. While quite a few SkillSoft competitors are out there carving out their own training niches, SkillSoft remains strong. With a comparable number of employees as Global Knowledge, SkillSoft's sales are significantly higher. Will SkillSoft remain at the top? That remains to be seen, but the future looks bright.
