Who are the SkillSoft Competitors?
SkillSoft is a leading developer of courseware and e-learning solutions, but what about SkillSoft competition? Who are the leading SkillSoft competitors and will SkillSoft remain on top? Before answering that question, it's important to note that SkillSoft has acquired past leaders in the industry, SmartForce (CBT Systems) and NETg. These mergers and acquisitions, which took place in 2002 and 2007 respectively, strengthened SkillSoft, helping to shape it into the powerhouse that it is today. According to Hoovers, SkillSoft is a public company with $328.5 million in sales for the fiscal year ending in January 2009 and it employs 1124 employees. Hoovers reports that the two main contenders in the SkillSoft competition are: Global Knowledge and Canterbury Consulting. Global Knowledge is a private company with $49 million in sales and 1050 employees reported in 2008. On the other hand, Canterbury Consulting, also a private company, employed just 146 employees and reported $12.5 million in sales.
Clearly, these SkillSoft competitors have a long way to go to top SkillSoft's sales figures. Digging a little deeper, let's look at the competitors listed for Global Knowledge: Learning Tree and ITT Educational. Learning Tree, a public company, reported $181 million in sales and employed 535 employees in 2008. The SkillSoft competition is heating up! ITT Educational, also a public company, reported $1,015.3 million in sales and employed 8580 employees in 2008, far eclipsing SkillSoft's numbers. However, the business models for ITT Educational and SkillSoft are quite different. ITT Educational offers IT degree programs, both online and off, while SkillSoft offers corporate training solutions. While quite a few SkillSoft competitors are out there carving out their own training niches, SkillSoft remains strong. With a comparable number of employees as Global Knowledge, SkillSoft's sales are significantly higher. Will SkillSoft remain at the top? That remains to be seen, but the future looks bright.
