Web Developer
The web developer position is also sometimes referred to as a software developer, web designer, application programmer or web programmer, is an IT professional who is responsible for the creation of programs which run mainly on the internet. These applications may be accessible by internal users, external users or a combination of both as the needs of the business or organization dictate.
Some of the most important duties of the web developer include the specification of the online system, designing the internet application to meet those specifications, coding the application, testing it thoroughly and maintaining it after it is in place.
In addition to the technical skills required, the web developer will need to possess strong interpersonal skills, in order to effectively work with a variety of personnel, including end users, management personnel, other technical staff members and members of the executive staff.
The ability to properly document and record all aspects of the project, from design to implementation, is another important skill that web developers will need to possess. Writing skills are an important component as well, since the potion may also require the creation and maintenance of online documentation, instruction manuals and other web content.
As the web developer gains knowledge and experience, he or she may choose to seek positions of greater responsibility within the organization. Such positions may include system administrator, project manager, application developer and database administrator. Although the salary level of the web developer will fluctuate according to market conditions and other factors, the experienced web developer may be able to attain salaries of $65,000 per year or more.
