Wireless Specialist

Also known as the wireless engineer, the wireless specialist is an IT professional who is responsible for designing and managing the wireless infrastructure of the organization, including choosing the right wireless hardware and software products, choosing the right wireless networking protocols, implementing security on the network and providing the needed flexibility and usability to end users.
Among the duties of the wireless specialist are such critical jobs as analyzing the wireless networking requirements of the organization, determining the tradeoffs needed to implement available wireless solutions, choosing the best and most cost effective solution, implementing that solution and maintaining the solution during the post installation period.
In addition to specific knowledge of various wireless protocols, the wireless specialist will need to possess strong general networking knowledge, including a working knowledge of network operating systems, desktop application solutions, network protocols and server technology.
Many current wireless specialists got their start as a network engineer, and transitioned into this more advanced role as they gained knowledge and experience. In addition, wireless specialists may choose to pursue other roles within the IT organization, including management positions and other positions or greater responsibility.
The salary levels achieve by the wireless specialist will vary according to a number of internal and external factors, including experience level, demand for specific technological skills, the local job market and the nature of the industry, but experienced wireless specialists can often attain a salary of between $70,000 and $80,000 annually.CWNP Certifications:
